Can't figure this out

I have been using Blade Forums for years, love the site. I am most often drifting in the knife exchange and the Maintenance, Tinkering and Embelishments forums. I don't post much.

One thing I cannot figure out is why do so many in the knife exchange mark their thread SOLD and delete the asking price? It's made it hard to judge the current price of things if you are not on 24/7 taking notes. Is that a rule I missed or is it a "culture" thing on this site? I get people wanting to be able to charge what they want when they want, maybe leaving the price up hurts those who flip or play "catch and release?" I can't figure out the motivation for the sellers.

Thoughts?

Go have a read through the GBU forum. Use the search function to get numerous threads upon that exact topic. That topic seems to come up every few months or so.
Direct link Incase you don’t know where it is.

It's been a frequent topic. Spark has stated that it's seller's choice & he isn't going to make a rule. A lot of people do it simply because they see many others doing it. Part of it is a It's nobody else's business what it sold for mentality, part if it is some sense of market protection, and part is because some wannabe buyers ignore all indications that the knife is sold and post in old threads (on profiles, send emails, etc).
