im trying to sharpen my mora 2000 with a coarse dmt diasharp. ive given it at least 300 strokes, almost 2 hrs of work, and no burr. im getting very frustrated. i lay it flat on the bevel and i marked it with a sharpy and its taking metal off the edge evenly. both knife and stone are brand new. what could be the problem?

its sharp, but ive seen alot sharper on other factory moras. from reading this forum i understand the burr technique yields the sharpest possible edge so i thought id give it a try to improve the sharpness.

Not all steels will bring up a burr, the steel in the 2000 will but it should be easily worked away.

Try a more acute angle, and I like to strop on the edge of some heavy cardboard, that usually takes the burr off right now.

its got to have something to do with the blade shape. i tried sharpening a non scandigrind knife and raised a burr in just 20 strokes. and i thought a single bevel was suppose to be easiest to sharpen..

You are probably dealing with two different steels, hardening, etc. Steel and stones aren't "aware" of shapes, grinds, angles.:) Technique and patience => burr.
