Can't get items shipped to NYC!

Just blowing off steam here... I ordered some stuff from a pretty reputable knife site, and got what seems to be an automatically generated reply saying they couldn't ship the "types of items" I ordered to my location. Why do I think so?

1. It's addressed to "customer"
2. I ordered a POUCH for chrissake... a nylon pouch! The ESEE-6 accessory pouch, to be specific, but it's still just nylon fabric sewn into the shape of a bag!

Am I wrong on the second point? Has it gotten so bad here that even knife-related products cannot be shipped here?

Talk to Manhattan's rogue DA - Cyrus Vance Jr. He is engaging in extortion on local companies and appears to be the center of this specific attack on your rights. The fault is his and that of the sheeplike morons that put and keep him in office.

While numerous dealers have chosen to avoid potential liability by not selling knives or certain knives to NYC customers and some the the entire state, generally that doesn't usually include non-knife items. In many cases, we have persuaded dealers to lessen their restrictions on shipping to New York state or, in some cases, the city as well. Having said that, it may simply be a glitch in their programming. Did you call and ask them? If you'd like, please email me details to nycity at KnifeRights dot org and we'll look into it.

I use to ship like crazy to ny but after that new law I do not ship to ny any more.

Doug, thanks for your offer, but I don't think any details need to be sent privately. I'll tell you everything here because, well, it was an error. Computer glitch or human error, I don't know, but it has been fixed and I'll be receiving my pouch.

I didn't mean to come off as ranting on the merchant, if I did. I'm definitely more angry at the lawmakers who have scared them off, some so much as to not even give a second thought about shipping to NYC, or even NY.

As someone who's lived here quite a while, I can tell you that my petitions will not do much to change the law. It's a sad thing I've come to believe from experience with the reps, NYPD, many others who should be looking out for us. However, that's a different story. Damn if I ain't trying, though.

Glad to hear it all worked out. The situation in NYC is unfortunate and frustrating, but Knife Rights is committed to fixing it. However, we cannot take on "city hall" by ourselves. Not directed expressly at you....but it needs saying. A membership in Knife Rights is an investment in our future. Thomas Jefferson said, "the price of freedom is eternal vigilance." I'd add that the "vigilance" required necessarily comes by way of organizations like Knife Rights who can accomplish what an individual cannot. Help us be vigilant. Join Knife Rights or make a contribution and help us ensure a Sharper Future for all Americans™.

Hell, there are disparities everywhere.

Sportsman's Guide won't ship knives over 4" to TN. Somehow their lawyers have equated not being able to EDC over 4" blades to it being illegal to even possess them.

But they'll ship us nightsticks and expandable batons, which are illegal to carry.

Thats the site or co just not wanting any hassles because of the new laws for NY. Don't have the same problems in NJ- strict albeit but not idiotic like NYC. I did have problems myself recently where a site/co thought the same laws apply for both states- which is inaccurate and a bad business practice for them. Just ordered on another site in 2 mins. Anyway-glad it worked out.

Its not a new law. Its a "new" interpretation of a law thats been on the books for over 50 years.

As for the vendor not shipping, don't take this the wrong way but I wouldnt either. Its a heck of a lot easier to say to your employees "Don't ship anything to NY" and not have to worry about it. Than to say "Only knives that are NOT liner locks to NYC, and check the laws for the remainder of NY or check the internet for the local interpretation in the county you are sending the knife to."

See where I'm going with this? See what happens when the company gets a lawsuit. It sucks, but its reality.
