Can't get my knife sharp

Hello everyone I have run into a slight problem. I have a spyderco Poliwog which I have been edging and it is sharp but not hair shaving sharp and smooth. ( aka wont cleanly cut paper)
I have 2 dmt stones ( one red one blue) and a sharpmaker.
But I can't seem to get it sharp.
Should i take it back to the blue stone and reshape the edge? Or just spend more time on the sharpmaker??
Let me know what techniques you would use in this case. P.s. it VG-10 steel so it should be able to take a nice edge.

I guess it could be a number of things. Make sure you've sharpened the edge so that both sides meet (apex) on the DMTs. Raise a burr on one side, flip, raise a burr. Then, on the Sharpmaker, check that the edge you ground is acute enough to fit the shaprmaker angles. If you're not reaching the apex with the ceramic rods, go back to the DMTs and make the edge more acute.
 
Do you have a loupe to look at the edge? That will likely tell you where you are going wrong.
 
you might want to put some sharpie on the edge so you can see if you are reaching the apex of the edge and like bpeezer said, get a loupe to look at the edge. if you still have problems you can do what striderco suggested too :D
 
I would mark the edge with sharpie too so you can see where your are grinding. Make sure you hit the apex. If yes, do the same when using the spyderco sharpmaker, either in the 15 dps or 20 dps setting and see if you still hit the apex. If yes, you could have a burr that prevents good results. VG10 is prone to have burr problems/getting rid of same.
