I have an SMF and cant seem to get it smooth? The only way I can get it relatively smooth is by loosening the pivot by by the time its loose enough for any type of smoothness there is side to side play? How to I get my strider to open smoothly without side to side lay? Have already tried tuff glide any other suggestions?

i use an oil called quick release and it works really good. have you taken the knife apart or just loosened up the pivot?

send me an email with your number and i'll give you a call. maybe i can help you get it working smooth.

Just keep using it. All knives get smoother as they break-in. Slight adjustments at the pivot can make drastic changes in the pivot tension.
If you have a tiger-striped blade, the detent ball has to wear through the rough bead-blast blade finish before it gets really smooth.

Just use it and have patience. :)

Not much to figure out, all you have to do is open and close it while watching TV or what ever, seriously, clean all of the lube out of it, cycle it several hundred times, the. Lube it. Let the parts break in without lube before you lube them. It will turn to butter

I usually pass my washers over an ultra fine stone a few times. I believe other people do this but haven't seen it talked about much. I know I didn't think of this on my own.

I give mine a shot of ballistol, it works every time, wipe and clean all excess off with a towel, and Q tips for hard to reach areas.

I lube my folders (and FBs, for that matter) with BreakFree. A pinhead size dab on both sides of the pivot works great. Also a great corrosion preventive.
