I'm trying to sharpen a Spyderco UKPK. Last night I reprofiled it to 30 with the diamond rods, formed a burr on both sides, and now I am trying to add a 40 microbevel. The knife is kind of sharp but it won't really shave. I am not sure what I am doing wrong as I just sharpened my Dragonfly 2 and it will shave. Any ideas?

You've got a burr or something. Strop?
Is the UKPK BD1? Not that it really matters but my BD1 UKPK gets screaming sharp easily. Dulls pretty quick but it's simple to bring it back.

I'm thinking I have some type of wire edge/burr, how else could I get rid of it? I have stropped a little bit. It is BD1.

Have you done what was recommended to me -- hold the knife blade up and looking at in with a loupe in strong light while rocking the blade? I found strong sunlight best for this.

I dont have a loupe but I have held it under a bright desk light where I can usually see a burr, but I dont see one.

You will feel the burr dragging on the strop.
At that point drag it over those Sharpmaker rods on the burr side till it glides over the strop.

Are you applying the microbevel with the diamonds rods too? If yes, with the right touch, you should not end up with a significant burr! No need for a strop after, really. The right touch meaning alternating light strokes. If you use the ceramics for the microbevel though, even lighter touch is necessary and they need to be absolutely clean but even then I would not be surprised if you still end up with a burr.
