I just got a PM2 in a trade and it wasn't super sharp. I took it to my Sharpmaker and sharpened it a bit, but it still isn't great. Is the S30V just that hard to sharpen, or am I doing something wrong?

My first 30 SV was a Spyderco Native and it took me forever to get it sharp. But for whatever reason (maybe angles) I can now get it as sharp as my other knives.
Recently got a PM2 that I have not had to sharpen yet but came from factory very sharp.

look at the edge straight on in good light and see if you see the edge shine. if not, you need to keep going. since i have no problems sharpening any steel out there, i cant say if its hard to sharpen or not :D

Yes, S30V is very high wearing. The first time you sharpen it, it will surprise you at how it resists. Diamonds do very well on S30V, but I actually use my water stones. It's more work, but S30V takes a beautiful polish with an Arashiyama 6k, for example. You are not doing anything wrong, and yes, it is the steel.

Definitely spend more time on it. Your experience sounds like what it was like for me when I first got a D2. Tough stuff, but it'll wear down.

At one point I owned both the S30 and S35 versions and noticed the S30 was slower to sharpen.

nate, its always a good idea to look straight down on the edge to see exactly how bad the edge is and how well you are progressing.

I got it to shave hair again, but it took a while. I used it at work today so I need to get at it again. I swear, I'm just gonna spend 3 hours on it tomorrow
