Thought I'd introduce myself in the new member's area but the "Post Thread" option doesn't appear.

No, paid membership is not required. You don’t “Post Thread” you hit the “Post Reply” blue button on the bottom right, to post your post.

Just go to below the last post of that thread, type what you want into the empty box, hit “Post Reply” once your done, that’s all there is to it.
