It's weird but I can't reach the kabar.com website from my country, the Netherlands.
At first I thought the problem might be on my ens but I triend on different devices, different ISP's and still no result.
The I tried with a VPN that emulates me being located in the USA and then it's no problem.

I asked around on a dutch knife forum and it looks like nobody in my country can reach the kabar website....

Is this something that can be fixed?
It's really inconvenient to need an VPN to visit the Kabat website.

-edit-

OFFICIAL_KA-BAR OFFICIAL_KA-BAR can you help out with this maybe?

What you are probably going to find is that the Dutch ISP you are using is preventing the contact.
That's why when you use a VPN you connect immediately.

The Dutch ISP probably has software which bans certain sites from being accessed. When I was in the UK recently and tried to access some US gun and knife sites from a particular UK ISP the same thing happened and I had to use a VPN.

Try connecting from another ISP and see if that makes a difference.

IIRC, in the past, kabar had a block on international addresses to help limit image piracy.

I've tried several isp's.bpretty sure that's not the issue.
We're not a country with any censorship...

Crazy to block whole countries imho. I hear from Belgian friends they can't reach the website either..

Yes it seems you are correct. It is a block from the site itself. I turned off my VPN and tried to connect, no luck.

Strange. I just tried and it works from Germany.

The last time there was a geoblock enabled, it was for all Europe...

It's a "legal cover your ass" thing.

IIRC, back when this situation raised its head a few years ago, it was because Kabar didn't want to have try to keep up with all the different knife laws in other countries. They have enough trouble keeping up with the US laws in 50 states, a few territories and federal laws. By restricting non-US based access to its website, Kabar purchasers have to go through European/Asian authorized dealers who only stock models legal for sale in whatever country is involved.

As the EU loves to sue companies that don't adhere to the EU's laws, companies (more than just Kabar) choose to err on the economic side of caution. Just google EU lawsuits - apple, google, microsoft, youtube and more have been and are being sued by the EU over business practices/etc. If the EU doesn't like how you are doing business there, they levy billion dollar fines or sue you ass.

If you don't live in the USA and you can't access a website in the USA, it's because the USA company in question doesn't want to be sued or fined by whatever country you are trying to purchase something from the company's website that might be illegal in your country.

I'm not trying to purchase anything. Just to visit the website.
I can visit many US knife webshops that don't ship overseas .

That is strange, so it seems only the Netherlands are barred from the Kabar website as I still can access it from Germany without a VPN from my computer and my mobile

Belgian friends also can't reach it.
