First post here, mainly been lurking trying to find some S90V or M390 Millie or Para2's on the exchange. Anyway, I am having a heck of a time sharpening this knife. I have at least 6-8 knives with S30V (including some Benchmades) and for some reason this is the only knife I can't get sharp. I'm using a sharpmaker, (even did some freehand on a diamond stone) but to no avail. It will cut paper, but every other knife I own I have had no problems getting hair popping sharp. I realize this blade has a slight re-curve, but I am only using the pointed ends of the stones on the sharpmaker. The blade feels different on the stones than my other S30V blades as well. On very clean stones, it feels as if I am removing metal, but after two passes it feels as if it is just gliding along the stones. I've tried light pressure, heavy pressure, and some in between.

The only thing I can think of is that this has something to do with the recurve blade, although I don't know what, especially since I am only using the pointed ends of the sharpmaker. Could this be an especially hard heat treat? Do you think the ceramic stones just aren't up to the task? I read where others have nop problem sharpening M390, ZDP-189 etc., on the sharpmaker. Any tips much appreciated.

You may not have the angle matched to what you have the Sharpmaker set up for. If this is the first sharpening that well may be the case. Have you tried marking the edge with a felt tip pen to see where you are sharpening. The Sharpmaker is good for finishing an edge but if you need to re bevel the edge you will probably have to use some diamond rods or diamond stones.

I did check it with a pen and it seemed as though I was hitting the edge. I have probably made 100 passes on each side on the sharp maker, so I figured that would be enough. I am about to wrap the stones in some 220 grit sandpaper and try and re profile. Well see what happens. Thanks for the help.
