So last night I tried the "darken up your micarta with oil" trick. Did not like! First off, too much made it turn brown, which while looking decent on it's own, does not look good in a Foliage sheath. Got 95% of it extracted and it's pretty close to what it started out as.

I may very well strip the BK-11 tommorrow....They have a scotch-brite wheel at the knife shop that takes stuff off real good...

I was going through my mod-box and found a new roll of rubber/leathery Wilson tennis racket wrap. Tried it around the narrow portion of the Micarta handle and it is the best, most comfortable grip EVER. Use that stuff a lot, need to pick some more up. Will probably put the micarta on the BK9 when it gets here and the Grivory/tennis racket wrap on the BK2.

Still want more grips. Anyone anywhere ever sell custom Becker grips?

I tried the D-ring drop-sheath mod on the factory BK2 sheath today. Didn't like that either. Without the handle snaps (which I removed earlier), It wanted to lean out too much. Looks like I'll stick to plan B and get the ESEE clip attachment....

Need to figure out if they have longer rivets for leather and stuff. Was trying to fabricate something today and nothing would work because the rivets and the kydex screws are all too damn short!!

Has anyone ever Tiger-Striped their Becker insead of full-stripping it? I ask because I have a sandblast booth at work and I have done that numerous times with Cold Steel Machetes.CONSIDERING doing it to the BK2...BUt theres no way back once you do it.....

Yup, you've caught it. The Becker Mod Bug. Its not deadly, but its dangerous.

I'm a modder from way back. Not only are BKT's the best out of the box, but something about that big, blank canvas says, "CHANGE ME!! MAKE ME YOUR KNIFE!!!"

It just tickles the crap outta Uncle E to see everyone modding and making kit knives out of his blades. Not sure if you know his story, but modding knives is how BKT came to be. Great designs, and fresh out the gate, great knives, but then, you want to do something, DIFFERENT.

Strip it, sand it, jimp it, grind it, paint it, change the handles, square the spine, do this, do that, oh this is good, well that sucked, it all comes together with the person, and how the view the world.

Yes, there are makers of custom BKT handles, Chestnut Ridge, Marathon Man, and many others. Best thing about it, hell, make your own. Guys make thier own shadetree micarta, carve their own handles, all kinds of stuff.

Good luck my friend, you have the sickness, take to BK7's and call me in a week, when the swelling goes down.

Just sand blasted my BK11.... Will take it to the knife shop tonight for a ride on the scotch brite wheel....

There is almost nothing more gratifying than playing with a Becker of any flavor. So far, my personal favorite "blank canvas" is the BK2. The feeling of accomplishment is great. I can't wait for some 7's to come in so I can snag one for myself and play with it. Maybe I'll snag 2 and turn one into a 10.

Hey Tanner......

A word to the wise on sand blasting carbon steels.....If you use a sharp medium you will get rust like you cannot believe...5160 is reputed to be the worst....Your best bet is steel shot as this tends to seal the pores in the steel and reduce the surface area for the EEEEVIL to attack.....I know somebody is gonna say steel doesn't have pores so maybe I should say micro surface imperfections instead......If you get a chance BTW take a look at a chunk of raw ground steel sometime under magnification.....An eye opener and kinda fun.....

All Best....

Already sealed back up with shiny polished scotchbrite-y goodness...

Oh, and I'm not going to do that to the BK2 (did it on the necker)...too many times I regretted it and I like it too much.
