Hello people,

Yesterday i finally found the allen key to remove the scale on my 3" XM-18.

The botton two, near the lanyard hole, were easy but i couldn't remove the other one!!
It seemed that the allen key could spin in there without unscrewing it!
The screw doesn't seem to be stripped so i son't know what's happening!
Any ideas?
Also, i lost one of the pocket clip screws the day i got it:mad:
Can it be replaced or do i need to pay a crazy amount of money for a "Hinderer" scew?

All help appreciated:)

No idea what the problems with the screw could be assuming you are using the correct size Allen wrench and it wasn't loctited by someone. I imagine a pm to Rob will net you a free screw. Wow that sounds wrong, sorry Rob.

You try pressing in on the opposite side to make sure that the whole tab isn't spinning when you try to unscrew the screw??????

Incorrect size allen wrench? Are you using a metic wrench with an imperial allen bolt possibly?

I can not imagine a screw to cost anything other than postage, a polite email to Hinderer HQ is in order.

5/64" hex head or T-8 torx on XM18 double check site for any variances in gen or size.

torx really?
i really feel stupid now LOL
what size, do you know?

Thanks

The Armorers Tool is a very nice quality piece, given your possible time constraint and availability of the armorers tool you may want to pick up a Torx set.
Not sure what your tool/hardware stores are across the pond. We have stores like Harbor Freight and Sears. The kits are pretty inexpensive and with the variety of sizes in the set
you'd be assured a fitment.

I personally wouldn't recommend using a torx bit in a hex head screw, particularly if you have the proper hex wrench. If the hex is stripped or abused in some fashion and the proper sized hex wrench is spinning inside the head, at that point you might try alternatives like torx drivers.

Replacement hardware can be obtained from Hinderer Knives, contact Rob Orlando, here is his contact page in BF:

Just to clarify. The fastener in the XM is absolutely a hex ( hex= allen , 6 sided - flat surfaces) the Armorers tool is a hex head with removable head so one can substitute in the size for the XM 3.5/24 or the XM 3".
A Torx (sometimes referred to as a star head) is a six point as well (with concave side) the contact is in the points vs the flats as on the hex.
A hex will not fit into a torx but a torx will fit into a hex and under light to moderate torque applications does not present an issue.
Before I procured my Genuine Hinderer Armorer Tool (Highly recommended) I used my torx and never had an issue.
As for my input, hope this serves as acceptable clarification. When I do mention something it is because it is something I have done many times and it has worked.
Again, the Armorers Tool is the way to go for lots of reasons not the least of which - it is just a really nicely made, well engineered Tool (just like all Hinderers.

Thank you very much for the info:)
I'll gently try it with my torx wich is the only tool available at the moment.

A bit OT but do you know where can i find an orange g-10 scale for my 3" xm?
I can't seem to find it in Rick's site!
