It's Greek to me,sure seems like he knows what he is taking about but i can't understand a word of it.
i love the way he goes at the billet with the boys axe in the beginning.

Yeah, that is pretty cool! I only had a chance to scan though it here before work but that old-timer looks like he has done that more than a couple of times!

not a clue. the wood has a slight pink cast, i was guessing birch maybe?

The smooth bark reminds me of beech. Looks like it might be green which is easier to carve but would be a concern because it may check and split as it dries.

Here's a bowl I made. 17" long and 6" deep. Shape was determined by the piece of wood, the base of a branch fork of London Plane, a piece I knew would be of the greatest difficulty to split.
