With the blade closed into the handle, the blade is slanted away from the lock. Any thoughts on why this is the case? Should i tighten the pivot screw? Or is this a defect of sorts? Compared to my cqc-15 which has a blade that is very nicely aligned right smack in between the liners, this one is starting to get me all obsessive compulsive. Incidentally, there doesnt seem to be any visible wiggle or play when the blade is deployed.

Tighten the pivot for sure.
My Bullnose Karambit was a bit off till I tightened the pivot a tad; NOW it's perfect.
Keep in mind that the pivot screws Emerson uses back out a tad easily at times, so you MAY want some blue Loctite to keep it in the "sweet spot."
