canteen lids

I keep an old military surplus canteen by the bed at night in case I get thirsty. I'm not exactly sure when I got it, but I've had it for years. The bottom is stamped "US 1990 R&D."

Lately it's not sealing very well and leaks if turned upside down, or when the cat knocks it over in the night (she's not very graceful).

I know I could go buy a new canteen for very little, but I've had this thing so long it's got some sentimental value.

Are there replacement lids out there? Something with an O ring seal would be nice. Or am I better off buying something new and something not plastic?

Just take the cap to a hardware store and buy the right sized flat rubber gasket/washer for it...should solve your problem for just a few cents.

:foot: d'oh. That should have been the first thing I thought of... good idea.

I need to take a trip to Lowes anyway. Thanks.
