Canvas Micarta®, G-10™, wood scales, or other?

I have a 30-year-old Russell K87 "one hand" knife on which I want to have scales installed.

Two difficulties:

1. What material to use that would have inherently rough or textured finish? I have knives whose handles are so smoothly finished that when my hand using the knife becomes wet or greasy, the knife shifts in use. At least once, I ignored this and sliced myself.

If scale material is inherently rough or textured, the person making and installing them on the knife will have an easier, quicker completion of the work.

2. I need a craftsman or knife maker to make scales and install them. I have many photographs of scales for K87s in stages of creation and installation. While I am nearly certain that difficulty making and installing scales is modest, I am incapable of doing the job myself. One stage in particular is beyond me. Four holes need be drilled-and-tapped (possibly two holes through both strips of steel between which fits the blade??) to screw each scale to one side of knife.

I welcome help - especially help finding the person for #2.

Yep, Micarta is the bomb. I’ve got a set of grips on a pistol that were finished on an 80 grit belt and they almost have a cats tongue texture.
