Newbie looking for a little knowledge. Purchased a knife with brown canvas micarta matte scales. Company makes matching firesteel sold separately. Closest I can find at this time is brown canvas micarta. I was told problem could be solved two ways. Sand firesteel handle with some 400 grit sandpaper to achieve matte look or apply product to knife scales to bring out more luster to match firesteel. Do any of these steps sound logical or am I better off waiting until I can get a hold of the correct firesteel? If so, what is the best product to apply to matte scales to get a nice shine? Thanks for any input.

Brown canvas micarta is brown canvas micarta is brown canvas micarta. Same chit. Shouldn't be shiny at all unless they put some kind of sealer on it. Just knock the sealer off with fine sandpaper.

Use a penatrating oil.
Thats what NWA use's on his. Huge improvement.

I thought I had an image of mine, but I couldn't find it. Google NWA knives and you can see what his brown canvas looks like.
He does it to all of his brown micarta, and it looks great.
