Fellas,
I have always blasted my canvas micarta scales, and that tends to make them a little "grippy", which I like.
However, If I have some scales that need to be .125" thick, I figure IF I go with 1/8" micarta, then after bead blasting, they will be too thin.
What would be best? Look for some 3/16" stuff?

Just wondering what you guys do to your canvas micarta, when you are trying to make it a bit "grippy"?

I also noticed you have to be nice and EVEN with the bead blasting, or you won't get a nice even finish. Gouging will occur if not smooth and even with bead blasting strokes...

I THINK I've heard of some canvas micarta, that was already textured from the factory. You guys ever heard of this??
Maybe it was G10. I don't remember...

I have seen pre-textured G-10. I can't really find it listed anywhere. I got some from Halpern and I didn't even know that's what it was. It had this weird fibrous outer layer and I was ticked off because it was fraying and looked like a mess, then I remembered someone mentioning that on the textured stuff you rip the top layer off and it's textured underneath. That's what it was! Mine is orange and 0.08"-0.09" thick, so I think it's too thin. There must be a supplier for the textured stuff somehere, though, in black with thicker scales. All the folder makers are using it. The downside is that to take advantage of the texturing you also need to leave the scales flat. When you round them off it removes the texture.
