What would hold up better on a camp hatchet handle? I tend to be pretty rough and careless with my hatchet. So I'm talking about absent-mindedly leaving it outside for the night sometimes, exposure to rain and occasionaly sub-zero temperatures, high impact against wood on mis-strikes (which never happens;)), impact on rock if dropped... you get the idea.

G10 is also an option on this hatchet, but I don't like the colours offered and I'd rather have the more traditional and classic looking micarta on such a tool.

This is for the Bark River Camp Ax, by the way. And, yes, I did read the sticky in the "Maintenance..." sub-forum.:)

The performance should be equal between the two. The only difference is the fabric used in making it. Once the resin has cured, it's pretty much the same thing. I think it's easier to polish the linen to a smoother finish, so they might have a slightly different texture. I've never handled any barkies though, so I'm not sure about that. I would just go with whichever you think looks better.

I agree with dannyp. The main difference between linen and canvas Micartas is texture and even that will vary depending on who is finishing the stuff. Texture will vary more by the finisher than with the materials.

Canvas micarta and linen micarta are both extremely tough phenolic resins.
In real world use, there's no practical difference between the two in terms of durability.

If it were me I would use canvas micarta or even denim micarta. As far as strength goes I believe they're all about the same however the coarser the material used in the micarta the grippier the finished product should be. I think some nice green or butterscotch micarta slabs would look nice on that hatchet. Or if you want it to be a lil more unique make up a batch of "jeancarta" and call it a day!

I had just decided on this one right before I read this post. Green canvas micarta with red liners. Can't wait!
