Captain C111G

Its been around for a long time afaik, people seem to either love it or hate it. Been thinking about getting one for a while, but there are quite a few on my list before it.

what's first in line for you

Right now I'm waiting for the S90V Manix II to arrive. I have a couple of knives from other manufacturers ordered and waiting for them. I would also really like the Sage II.

My tastes are turning more toward fixed blades, so would really like the Temperance II.

So while the Captain still looks like an interesting knife to me, I seem to keep pushing it back, so will probably end up never buying it. I do think that once its gone, a lot of people will want one.

For most things a Manix2 is a better value and more usable blade. For others the Captain is a very fun tool and extremely useful (just not for opening envelopes at the office).

The M2 carries a bit deeper and longer than the Captain. It's not nearly as smooth and I like the ergos more on the Captain plus it will prob disappear first.

I got mine as a freak conversation piece. I tend to carry lighter EDC knives to the office and back so it sits next to the M2 most of the time. Both are great knives.

I would also really like the Sage II.

The Sage 2 is an awesome piece of knife. Great ergos, smooth opening, and cuts like a knife should. Borders on artwork, IMO.

Back to the Captain, I'm not sure what one does with it. But from an appearance point of view, its a standout.

Back to the Captain, I'm not sure what one does with it.

Well it's built like a skinning knife, plus it has a hawkbill on it, so it seems relatively functional, at least from the looks of it (I don't own one...yet).

my captain will do pretty much anything any of my other knives will do, except pointed things, zip ties and the like. I have the front edge sharp enough to open envelopes as long as you can get under just a corner. Takes a wicked edge, took a bit to get a feel for exactly how to sharpen it, but once I figured it out, it was NICE!!

feels GREAT in the hand as well.

anyone got the new VG-10 knife from Spyderco:

great looking knife; didn't know if anyone snagged one and had thoughts on it.

Not sure how new it is...I bought a used one over 1.5 years ago. It is a neat knife and very useful for certain tasks. For my day-to-day routine at work, my P-Mil fills the bill much better. If I think I might have to do any kind of scraping, I will take the Captain, but those occasions are few and far between. I generally need a lot more pointiness than the Captain can offer.
