::thumbup: the Captain got a great review in the new Tactical Knives Mag. Where is the Captain made? How difficult are the two seperate edges to resharpen? I have been considering a Captain for sometime. Any reviews and opinions will be appreciated.

The Captain made my personal Top 10 Spyders after only owning it for 2 weeks. It is a super slasher. That Tactical Knives magazine article was a good review. Jerry Van Cook is a great writer and really knows his blades.

To me the C-111 Captain model is like a convex Straight Razor. But it is not limited to self defense. It is a great EDC and I have carried mine along with my G-10 Harpy & big Dyad. It is a great blade>>> Misunderstood for sure but a really great blade. JD

I convex sharpen all my knives using a leather pad and some 400>600 grit sandpaper and three charged leather pads. I think the Captain would be a natural for sharpening in this manner. On second thought, maybe the Sharpmaker would do better on the recurve portion of the blade.

if this deal is VG 10 which I believe it is than it is made in Japan, I handled in his shop wants, in the handle just didn't feel right. although I would love to try out the blade design.

Is the Captain made in Japan?

Yes the Captain is a Japan made Spyderco model. I too prefer and tend to gravitate more to Spyderco's USA, Golden Colorado made models. But I also own many of the Japan made Spyders. Don't let that dissuade you for one second because Japanese Cutlery is truly some of the best on the planet.

Most people in the Culinary field actually prefer Japanese chef's knives.

Also VG-10 which the Captain is made from is truly a premium blade steel.

The Captain is a great skinning knife as well. I'm sure we'll hear more and more about other uses for the Captain model. But for self defense I just love the grip. I've never actually had to use it ( Thank God) but I feel very confident when carrying one. This model will be more and more appreciated as time goes by.

the captain is my first spyderco model. It has been my EDC sinse i got it. I think the handle fits my hand very well. The blade did take a little getting use to but it didnt take long at all! Its my first spydie but definitely not my last! And its not the last captain ill get either.
