I have been using those grippers you get in the sports stores for about ten years now and can do about 100 reps in both hands comfortably - I want to get a set of Captains of Crunch grippers but don't know which one to get (thinking no. 1 or 2)

Any advice??

If your used to using the ones in the stores with the plastic grips and can squeeze them all day the #1 is the way to go. If not start with the trainer. Realize that most people and a friend of mine has really tested this, most cannot close a #1 let alone a #2. Just some thoughts.

I'll be doing a passaround of two books and the trainer in about a week; I just want to read the books again first. The books are The Grip Masters Manual and Mastery of Hand Strength, both by John Brookfield. I can add you to the list if you'd like; Bobwhite also indicated interest so he's on there too. I'd guess that at that level of reps on easy grippers you can probably train on a #1, but the trainer should give you a good indication of where you're at now. I've run into several people who couldn't close the trainer, and so far only three who could close the #1 right off. For reference, I can do about 20 full reps on the trainer and can close the #1 with both hands. Once. Barely. But I can close it. Try this. Close your easy gripper using only your pinky and ring finger. If you can do this you're probably ready for the #2. These books are great though; it really gives you a new perspective on training your grip.

I second what HH said.

What I did, was get 1 & 2. Something to strive toward. Builds character.

Thanks Chaps !!

Roadrunner - alas my friend as is always the case, I'm in the UK and that just complicates all passarounds !! I really appreciate the gesture though bud !!

I think I'll go for the #1 - will let you know how I get on !!

;)

Brendan; I know you're in the UK, you're free to jump in if you'd like. We'll put you at the end of the list so no one else will have to wait for a long shipping period. It won't bother me any. If not, be sure to at least buy Mastery of Hand Strength with your #1, and maybe even get a #2 while you're at it. You can train with a gripper one level over the one you can already close by closing it fully using both hands then attempting to hold it closed. The book is worth every penny and more, I can't recommend it enough. There's also a forum here that you may want to check out. You have to register before you can view it. Let me know if you want in on the passaround, really I don't mind at all, and good luck.

Cheers mate !!

In that case, count me in !!

I'll send you my address !!

Nice one !!

;)

Hey Brendan, whereabouts in the UK are you? I'd love to see some more khuks and I think you're probably my best shot!!

Ok, you and Bobwhite have special HI "VIKP" pass-around slots for this one. I'll post it sometime next week one I read the books one more time.

Hey Ross

I'm in Teesside, near middlesbrough. You're more than welcome anytime to come and see my khuk's matey !!

I found a #4 at a pawn shop for $8 and just had to get it.
It is so tough that I can't even get it 1/4 way closed using both hands. Been using trainer and #1, but ready to move to number #2 now.

Anybody here ever strictly closed a #2 or #3?

Brendan, I'm not a million miles away up in Edinburgh. I travel south fairly often (sister in York) so when I shoot down next, I'll drop you a email and maybe pop in? It would be great to meet a khuk and blade fan in the UK!! There's not too many of us.

Regards

Ross

I thought he said he could close the #2. I know I'm impressed, that thing is tough! I'm about 3/8" away; not too bad considering where I started less than two months ago.
