I'm asking this here, because the Captains of Crush grip trainers are sold through Emerson Knives website, and they're amazing. In just a few weeks, I went from almost closing the #1, to completing the #2, and my forearms grew in size by 30% or so. I'm not a dedicated strength trainer either, just a martial arts dabbler.

My question is: I can repeatedly close the #2 (195lbs :D ) and want to work my way up to #3 (280lbs). Would you recommend buying the #2.5, or should I just jump straight to #3? What would your routine be?

Anyone else use these? If not, I can't recommend them highly enough.

I've been using these for a while now and can close the #2 repeatedly but haven't tried to go up yet. It's a BIG jump from a #2 to a #3. I trained with a #1.5 for a while before I was able to close the #2. I usually train my grip 3 times a week warming up with a #1 for about 10 reps and then move to the #2 and work until failure and immediately pick up the #1.5 and work until failure. I do this for 3-5 sets. Hope this helps.

I use them. I own the #1 and #2. When I got mine there were no ".5's". I can rep the #2 about 10 times fully with each hand. My buddy in the Air Force had a #3 he could close once. At that time I could do about 15 straight full reps with the #2. I tried his #3 and could not get it to move AT ALL. So like Warnellk said it is a VERY big jump from #2 to #3. They're without a doubt the best grip/forearms trainers on the market though.

I've never tried the captain of crush grip trainers so I can't really comment on those. However I do powerlifts and grip strength is pretty important. I can tell you a couple workouts to add to your grip routine. If you have access to heavy dumb bells you should do farmers carries. Just grab the heaviest db's you can hold and walk. Also heavy deadlifts will help your grip. Those two lifts will also help grow your traps.Training with heavy weights in general will help your grip. Hope the helps. Sorry to go off topic.

I use the COC trainers to help my grip when dead lifting which has helped tremendously. I would definitely buy the 2.5, going from 2 to the 3 is a huge jump. I actually have 0.5, 1, 1.5, 2, and 2.5. I start with the 0.5 as a warm up and work my way up. I have them in my desk at work an use them as I talk on the phone or reading emails LOL.

Thanks for the responses guys, I will be ordering the 2.5 and 3, and don't expect to be smashing the 3 shut anytime soon. My goal is to be ready for Blade next year, to close the #3 at the Emerson booth and earn/win a knife

for smaller increments in poundage progression i recommend the invanko super gripper

and for even better grip training / compensation i highly recommend the metolius grip saver (lmedium and hard) - one of the best training gear investments ever!

:encouragement:
