Hi, I had a trouble for last few weeks.
Unknown animal get into the space between the ceiling and the roof, trying to
nest and breed there. Unfortunately I had no access to that particular part of
space without breaking the cieling. Anyway there must be a path
where the animal go, getting into my house and going out for feeding.

After a few days of search, my wife finally detected the path.
It was a duct space where various pipes go through. I put rolled Barbed wire
into the space to stop the animal, keeping the flow of air at the same time.
The animal stopped getting into my house, but left this one.

the size is about 5mm (1/5 inch)

Then I set a trap to capture the animal around the path.
The bait is a doughnut and a piece of apple. The first doughnut was stolen by somebody :(
I set the trap again, this time with my best tweak that a slight tough on the trigger
activates the trap.
Then I've got this one.

It was a male Masked Palm Civet.

Not a native spice in Japan, at least around my house.

After capturing this one, the guy stealing my bait was identified. It was a rat.

Thanks for reading and looking.
with best.

Nice Hope you dropped him in water for a bath-cage and all!
Now go get the rat
Thanks for posting

is that a cage rash? Nice catch. You are welcome to come to my place and catch all these cats. I have a hava-hart that is a mean trapper!

What a cute little critter! :D

Still can't be living with you in the house though! I bet he'd wrack up your food bill in no time! :p

Awesome catch Fujita!

So...what did you do with it? Is civet any good smoked? :D

.

Thanks, guys.
I did several kinds of traps when I was a kid.
Trapping needs good observation, not only looking but also sniffing :D of target animals.
Looking at target animal getting into the trap is a really exciting experience.

A guy of Kamakura city provincial gov. came and took him to euthanasia.
So, no smoke this time. :D
I'm a volunteer pest control of Kamakura city.

Last year i was working at a camp and we had a civet cat terrorize the guests and spray everywhere. Think of urine, after two weeks of eating nothing but asparagus and drinking cheap beer, pissed onto a hot BBQ covered with rotting fish. Thats the smell of a civet cat

Glad you caught him Fujita! They are called "musang" here and are native here in SE Asia as well. They generally do stay away from human habitations. I think he's more of a lost, curious and probably hungry visitor. That rat though is the real pest.

BTW, do you know what the the world's most expensive coffee is made of? :D Any guesses? (Hint: initially, you might :barf: at the idea. . .)

good job fujita, appreciate the pic since i have'nt seen one of these before. you can never tell what's in your attic.thanks for sharing

Untamed, that special coffee sounds awesome, must have so special flavour, I bet. :D
Civet's ecological position here in Japan is quite different from what they occupy in your counrty.
They are doing quite a serious damage to farming, especially fruit and vegetables, as they have no predators.

Bushman, this particular civet did quite a lots of annoying things within my house, as you know well.
The tick I posted is only a small part of them.

I just wanted to share how glad I am to get rid of this nuisance.

Nice work getting rid of the nuisance.

This winter I trapped a feral cat and an opposum that had been causing a racket under my house. I was sure glad to get rid of those guys!

The Masked Palm Civet or Himalayan Palm Civet (Paguma larvata) is a species of civet spread across the Indian Subcontinent and Southeast Asia, which in recent times was considered to be a likely vector of SARS.

Yeah, it's kind of cute, but death by fire is probably appropriate.

We have a possum problem in our neighborhood, but there are no problems trapping them. They are so dumb, slow, and unafraid of humans that you can just walk up to them and do whatever you feel is appropriate.

Here's a vid showing how civets living in Japan.
This video comes from a firm doing exterminating pest animals.

A temple of Kawasaki (one of the major cities of Tokyo district) comes at 2:20 in this vid.
Upto ten civets are living in this temple :D and captured.
Not that serious in my case :)
