mom and baby are fine, dad has gone on rant about how he has always disliked anti lock brakes.

car is a bit smashed, brakes could not generate enough stopping force (rant) so i made the decision to swerve onto shoulder on highway rather than hit the car in front of me full on. Crushed the front corner of my car and skimmed along, in fact, impact didn't wake the baby up.

to the guy who made the insane lane change that created this mess, I hope you get a nasty canker sore.

yea, and he got away.

Glad you're all alright! Yeah, karma or his own driving will eventually catch up with him. Hope he's not close to anyone else when it does.

Esav- kar karma. heh. :D

Hi Dave,

Glad everyone is OK. Don't be too hard on the ABS. They only pulse if the wheels are locking up. And if they lock up, you will just slide, not stop anywhere near as fast, and have no way to steer around the accident.

In fact, the reason I got ABS back in the early 90s was because I couldn't stop and had an accident on a rain slicked road (even worse) when I hit the brakes, they just locked up and the car slid, and I had no steering response, double whammy.

Of course, if you know all this already and your experience doesn't match mine, well, that the way it goes :)

Eric.

Many of us tend to take the task and risks involved with driving for granted until reminded by incidents such as yours.

Good that the family got off so relatively easy. :)

Dave it's really wonderful that you and your family came out alive and well!!!
~~Smoke~~ and ~~Song~~ that all continues to go well for you and yours!!!

And yeah, I'd be pissed off too, but getting pissed off doesn't and isn't gonna solve or help anything even if the, "What If's?" can and generally do make us feel better.;) :D

.

Good to hear it was only the car that got banged up. Could've been worse.....

Point of fact though is if you hadnt had ABS brakes you might have not been able to make the shoulder and had no choice in the matter altogether....you would've just skidded into the car ahead.

Just Rant it out man....and thank your lucky stars.

A Buddhist monk was driving down a quiet suburban street when a small furry creature ran out and *bam*

He got out, inspected the damage, went to the house nearby and was met by ... another monk.
Sorrowfully, he informed him, "My karma hit your dogma."

(I believe that was first posted on BF by markksr, truly an enlightened one.)

First the accident, now EB's humor, things just keep going from bad to worse.

Glad the troops are ok, Dave.

wacherass, hear?

having been thru a number of defensive driving courses, they all taught me that if there is a choice between a head on or running right off the road, you should run off the road. even if you hit something stationary it's better than hitting something coming fast at you the other way. hitting an ocoming car with both travelling at 60 is like hitting a wall at 120, effectively doubling the speed and 4x the energy. the energy has to go somewhere.

y'all did the right thing. hope you gave the police enough info to catch the sucker.

The main thing is that you and your family are OK. Thank GOD!

Be blessed. Traffic sucks.

Glad yall are ok, While it may be financially inconvenient, sheet metal is a whole lot more expendable.

That was a close one, Dave  If the guy's bad karma is going to catch up with him, then surely your good karma kept you and your family safe:thumbup:

You're luckier than you realize, Mr. Dave. ;) People being safe is the only important thing.

Keep being well,

Mike

Glad everyone safe, Blessings to count
