Met a new group of people that RAVE about camping. Think it's the greatest thing ever. They load up everything AND the kitchen sink into their Land Rovers and high-tail it into the "back country" (rough 4x4 trails).
Sounds like fun to me. Now I just have to decide which knives to take! Probably my mini-commander for general-purpose stuff, but I expect to be carrying my CZ75b 9mm and a "camping" sized fixed blade once we get settled in. I've narrowed it down to 4 -- help me pick the "best" one for this situation:
4" D2 TTKK -- this is actually the sort of think I bought it for, but it's taken up residence in my kitchen drawer, and since these aren't "knife people" I'm nervous about "hey, let me use your knife..."
Next would be the 4" 52100 "pronghorn style" from Bill Burke, set to arrive shortly. I bought this one with "hunting camp" in mind, but it's another good candiate. I'm nervous about it rusting though, and it's pretty expensive -- again the "hey let me use your knife" worries.
I don't actually have a Buck Strider Solution, but it strikes me as the PERFECT knife for this situation, and a nice compliment to the Bianchi UM84II OD-green holster I'll be carrying my pistol in. I just sorta hate to buy ANOTHER knife so similar to what I already have. Seems perfect though.
And finally, I do have this 154CM combo-edge Talon. I bought it as my "lake knife" to use-and-abuse. It would probably be OK in the mountains for around-camp uses. With the full-size Tek-Lok, it should fit just fine on my Wilderness Instructors belt. It just doesn't "grab" me like the others though.
Oh, I do have my Patton 5" ATS-34 "Field Unit", but I'm afraid it's a little big for my first time camping with these folks -- they might think I'm a freak about knives.
So, which one should I bring?
Mike
