Past Fall in a Navarrean village fronton, near Pamplona. Peugeot 205 cutting competition,

Ugalde, Very good view. Thanks for posting this. I watched some of the others and in wood cutting, spring board competition they used a polished axe head. I would think this makes a difference in how the trunk wood can grip the axe less.? DM

Impressive! No matter how carefully sharpened a blade is at the beginning it sure is a good test to see what it looks like, and how durable it was, at the end.
 
Very interesting! A bit dangerous striking metal with an axe right next to a pool of spilled gasoline, though. Hope they cleaned that up properly! :D

David, axe performance has more to see with geometry. Those are resistance competitions, every little advantage counts, they say polished axe is easier to free from a stuck log and is harder to stuck in it. Thats the reason.

300Six, I thought the same about the axes. It would be great to see before and after axes. Thakns god they didn't thought cutting a 4x4 vehicle.

FortyTwoBlades one thing is to have a crazy man who forgots to empty his car tank of gasoline when he is preparing it for the competition, but what I see worst is that nobody says nothing nor warns competitors about it!
Have you sure they would clean that mess, the fronton is a vital town building in those small towns, nowadays sacrer for a great part of the population than the church itself.
 
This video really makes me smile!! The local fire dept. when I was a kid would do a $1 per minute thing at town carnivals/ events where they would let you hammer on a wrecked car with an axe or sledge that they provided. It's a regret in my life (and on my bucket list) that I've never had the chance to show up at one of these with my own fireman's axe and 13lb. post maul, pay for 20 minutes or so and try to do this or at least cut the roof off.

That wasn't gasoline.....the car just pissed itself when it realized what was happening.

Oge14, here on Blade Forums, did this a couple of years ago with a Kill Devil tomahawk. The blade came out with just a few minor nicks. Good stuff.
 
Likely a good thing that they chop away at Peugeots (and Renaults and Fiats)? because a man would get worn right out 'beating on' a 1940s Dodge Powerwagon.

That gas sure got everyones attention. I remember taking my Jeep to a welder when I was young to get a hole in the gas tank fixed. He told me to fill the tank right before I brought it to him. He welded the hole in a matter of minutes, no problem at all. I stepped out of the shop while he welded it.:D

I recall seeing that at carnivals when I was a kid, too young to beat away at it. DM
 
i've had the opportunity to work over a few junk cars with a Pulaski over the years. As long as the blade is not honed thin and razor-sharp the effects of chopping through a roof or door pillars is hardly noticeable on the blade after.
I'd love to see a similar car chopping competition with boutique crash/survival tools or tomahawks. That would really stretch-out such an event.
