Crag the Brewer
I like your knife. Handle looks comfortable as always, and obviously a great slicer. I was wondering what gave you the thought to put this unconventional handle together, a rear bolster, for lack of a better term. If you don't mind sharing the gearworks behind the mad genius. Thanks.
I actually thought about This quite a bit.... And I'm still thinking?
Long story short..... I wanted to use green Shadetree burlap on this build.
I like my handles apparently longer than "Normal".
I felt I was cutting it close with how I design my handle shape and needed more material. This is only my 3rd multiple piece handle that I've made. Idk if you can tell with the dark materials here, but I bevel my material so it helps hold down the other materials. This one has my regular handmade hardware, except made from brass instead of aluminum, and bronze. Also flared tubing.
Idk if you ever saw older hunting rifles, occasionally the forearms might be tipped in ebony. I like that look. When I made my first "THANKS- give Away knife" last year, that reminded me of those old safari rifles. So I like doing that.

I have opinions on whether the black should be up front or the rear?
-but I still haven't officially decided yet.....
*I'll look for more pics to post here about that.
*Good question!!!
More, to your point....the grippy part is the green area. The black area is smoother and harder.
I felt for a beefy field knife (which this is) I didn't need grippy texture in the pommel area. At least that's my logic, not sure If it makes sense?
*Although if the harder area was up front, it would be more durable from sheath wear. I'm sure the kydex will eventually wear it down a bit until it finds the Sweet Spot....
