I got the Cara Cara 2 yesterday and I just can't get it Sharp enough for my standards it features the 8cr13mov steel same as the cryo which I have and is screaming Sharp, any suggestions on my sharpness problem and I also use a lansky knock off which got my cryo razor sharp

^yep. Wire burrs are a real pain. Also wide bevels....just make sure you are hitting the edge.

My Cara Cara 2 is extremely sharp . The 8cr13mov reminds me of aus8 in that although it is a budget steel it takes an extremely fine edge. I have knives in 154cm, s30v, vg10, on and on, Some of my aus 8 knives are the sharpest knives I have. Btw I use an Edge pro apex.

Chinese steel is notorious for this. Quality control is very lacking. One batch will be fantastic, the next is no better than a forged beer can. I've had luck with the Byrd's I own, but this is a fairly common problem with most things made in china.

You save some money, but it is a crap shoot in the end. caveat emptor.

Of course, it could be your sharpening skills too... ;)

Good luck!

Be sure that you are spending enough time thinning out the bevels to actually make them meet and apex them. A lot of people sharpen the bevels, but don't apex them. The formation of a burr is evidence that you have successfully brought your bevels together.

Great advice so far. I would also like to add that a sharpie is your best friend. Mark the bevel with it then go to town. It will let you know quickly if you are getting all the way to the apex

I have had very good results with Byrd steel.
My CC2 in G10 is a great slicer.
Granted the edge will not last long with hard use, these cheap steels have given me lots of sharpening practice.
