Just got this in the mail today. In black sharpie, I blacked out the stock to be removed. I kinda like this variation better than my last waved Cara Cara. I like the leaf shape of the blade. Reminds me of a Grohmann.

Below is the first Cara Cara that I waved.

why get rid of the bottom part of the comet hole? Doesn't seem necessary. In fact I could see very little steel removal to get a decent waved function.

I don't really care for the comet hole.

that maybe true, but it still just seems to me that as soon as you took off a certain amount of metal, it's just a squiggly line, not a comet hole. I think i'll save your pic and then draw on it in paint to help my thinking.

Thanks, please do.

sorry for the dp, but here is what I mean.

if you only took off that much, then the hole will lose it's shape, and be less comet-hole-like. Not only that, but you would keep much of the blades structural integrity.
That is fairly rough, but it gets the general idea, what I mean.

I'm not really too worried about the structural integrity as it won't be seeing hard use. And I'm really digging the leaf shape tho.

ya the leaf shape does look nice, I just don't feel comfortable with weakening a blade, just me I guess.

Actually solidsoldier, since you like waved knives, how about just removing a little (maybe 3/4 inch at most) notch in the block of steel in front of the hole (direction away from pivot). I think it'll still wave and even though the wave movement is in a bigger circle it'll need less force to open (not that it needed much to begin with.

(For better visualisation, look at the pic by WonKonPow. The length of the white line just in front of the hole is about an inch. Cut a notch at the left hand side around 3/4 an inch (or more depending on your preference of wave 'grip') and about 1/8 or more wide)

I reason that this way you'll not weaken the knife and it'll look aesthetically pleasing as well. Let me know what you think. :)

I know just what you mean. That would look cool on a Yojimbo.

Actually the leaf shape ain't too half bad looking :)

Be careful in using it cause it's a bit weaker than a normal Cara but should be fine for moderate cutting chores.

If I were to do that, it would be a G10 handle version.
