Anyone here from the states order a carbide platen directly from robin relatively recently? If so how much was the import/duty fees. Contemplating picking up one, i know contender has the 8in here stateside but i want the 10in long boy

I’ve placed 2 orders with him in about the last 8-10 months. Not sure how the shipping cost breaks down but I sent him whatever he charged via PP for the platen and they showed up in my mailbox a few weeks later.

I’m assuming it’s all baked into whatever cost he quotes you.

I ordered one before Thanksgiving (I think), and UPS tagged me for a little less than $30 due to the tariff. Had to pay that before they would deliver. That platen is well worth it to me, has been a game changer.

I usually declare them with a value of around 65€.
This because if i put it higher you get charged more and the insurance is only for 50€. So no reason to put it higher for me.

welp looks like i know what imma get once the tw90 gets here….god my wallet hates me for abusing it this month

Must have for every grinder😉
eh it’s mostly a luxury for me i don’t really use my platen as much as i’d imagine most people do. 70-80% of my work i do on the wheel since i grind the same way tim hancock used to teach. But having something that guarantees i don’t have to worry about wear and reflatten the platen periodically is a very nice thought. But i gotta see if it’d even fit on the tw90 stock platen or if i gotta make a new backer for it since the tw90 platen is hollow ground on the back and extends past the bottom of the idler wheels which limits the amount i can adjust it in to compensate for the added thickness of the carbide

The 240mm long carbide will fit on it. I made them before on a baseplate aswell for the tw90. And i think i made like 2x 45degrees beveel on the back for the contactwheels indeed.

Or you can mount it on your existing platen aswell. Tape on the back comes on the carbides.
