I'm looking for a router bit for making hand guards on my knife but I can't find any also is the router bit the best thing to use to make a the slot in the hand guard. Also is there anyone out there looking to sell a knifmaking belt sander or know where I can get one for under $300 I'v only seen one and it was $295.95 from Grizzly the adders there Is www.grizzly.com is anyone want to looking for a belt sander. Thanks

Campblell,

I would be afraid to try a router on metal, even soft metal. That being said, I have never personally tried it. If you don't have a mill, I would just drill a hole, cut down to the hole with a hacksaw/bandsaw, and file to final fit.
Although not a premium machine, the Grizzly is well worth the money, IMO.

One neat trick I learned from Rob Hudson that speeds up the square hole process is to use a fine metal cutting blade in a jewelers or coping saw. Scribe the outline of the hole, drill one small hole near one of the corners, put the blade through the hold and then cut just inside the line. Lots faster and easier than drilling a row of holes and then filing them out to the line.
