What is the damascus made of? If it is 1084/1095/O1 with 15N20 or L6, you should be able to do it yourself if you have the equipment. Dependiing on the size of the blade you can do it with a torch or a forge and an oil quench.
Try it yourself with a torch or forge if you plan on doing more blades in damascus. You should be able to utilize the damascus maker also.Its his steel.
If you are working with a thick spined blade,say 1/4" or so, bring it to nonmagnetic, along the cutting area, and edge quench. It's kind of a toarch
job in reverse. As you apply heat along the edge, the heat gravitates towards the spine, so when you quench the edge in oil it tends to leave the middle of the blade tough and the spine softer. I've made a lot of that damascus combination and find it is very forgiving. As for a thinner blade,
