My Case Carbon fiber Sodbuster Jr has arrived today. Man this thing is light and thin, you wouldn't notice this in your pocket! It has the best walk and talk of any of my other case sodbusters, it's very tight but not to the point that it is a problem. The fit an finish is nice but you can see a ridge in the carbon fiber where the spring pin is on the handle, not a major issue for me but maybe to some. I could do without the Case Shield and wish they offered this in CV but all in all it's a nice addition to my Sodbuster collection. Here are some pics,

Nice looking knife :)

The handles are much thinner than the ones at the yellow Soddie. How does it work in regular working terms? I´m looking forward seeing more this one. :)

Kind regards
Andi

Thanks for posting the pictures. The difference in thickness Andi mentioned is interesting. Less bulk in the pocket but a different feeling in the hand if you're used to the normal sodbuster handle profile.

I think the profile is similar to the synthetic handle German Eye Brand sodbusters. I haven't put it to work since it arrived only a few hours ago but I think it be a comfortable user. I do prefer thicker/rounder handle sodbusters like the other Case's but I don't mind a thin profile like this or the German Bull/Eye Brand.

On a side note Andi, I have a few German made Sodbusters on their way to the states, a Loewen Messer 7328 and an Otter-Messer 178

treytrec: I also have a Otter Soddie (or Hippeskniep as we call it here), it has mighty wooden handles which are comfortable to use the knife.

I hope you know, why I said "mighty" ;)

Back to topic: I like the shape of the carbon fiber handles. They make it more to a gentleman´s folder than to a working horse. I hope it will serve you well for work.

Enjoy yours :)

Kind regards
Andi

Wow! That is "mighty"! Looking forward to those knives!

I agree with your statement that the Carbon Fiber Case is more of a gentlemans folder, it would be a good choice for office attire and dressier occasions whereas the others sodbusters are good blue jean/workers pants pocket knives.

Do my eyes deceive me, or did they really forego the liners? Very cool:thumbup: I bet it's real light in the hand!?

Very nice. I do agree it would look better without the shield.
Since it is more of a gentleman's folder, they probably stuck with the as ground SS for the "classy" look.

Wow that is super nice! Do you think its worth the price tag though?

If that knife didn't say "Case" on it this thread would be moved lol.

Looks like it would make a great worker, but it's not for me.

Your eyes are correct, no liners! I don't have a digital scale so I can't give real weights but I would say this knife is close to half as light as the delrin sodbusters by Case, and I'm not trying to exaggerate. I guess if you think about it there are no brass liners and the carbon fiber is much thinner than the delrin handles and considerably lighter so a good amount of weight is gone. Is it worth the price tag?...for my collection yes, for an everyday beater though I would probably go with the yellow CV for less than half the price.

I take it that you mean it's not traditional? While the handle material is non traditional it's still a traditional classic design, it's just a different take on a traditional knife. I can see people not caring for this version and I'm much more inclined to the more classic handle materials but I've always liked a little variety now and then and this definitely falls into that category:D To each their own though.

I'm glad to see it being offered with the work ground blade instead of a finish with a higher polish but that's just me. Also I never thought I'd see a Sodbuster that could suffice as a gents knife but in all honesty that knife looks classy.

There are a couple things I really like about this knife. The CF allows it to not need liners, but more importantly it lets them use a pivot pin that can be peened instead of the press fit rivets that are more likely to develop blade play. I also like the blade finish, as it will show less scratches. Thanks for the comparison pics.
