Carbon Fiber Durability

I am wondering what is everyone's experience with carbon fiber. I am thinking of a mnandi in carbon fiber for edc. I would love to hear from sebenza users also. I plan to clip in my pocket no using the sheath. Pics would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance.

My most carried knife for a while was a knifeart 21. The carbon fiber side still looks new. I think it's a great material wear wise. A 940-1 got a lot of use back in the day and looks great as well. I am a CF fan, but it's great stuff. Light, strong, nice looking and long lasting.

Thank you for the input. I realize I need to change my question.

How does the carbon fiber age?

I know it's durable, about 20 years ago I had a bike made out of carbon fiber.

I have two carbon 21's...both have held up well but I think it's more difficult to refinish. I don't mind the wabi.

Well I did it. I left my old mnandi at home and took the new one out. I must admit the carbon fiber and damascus is an interesting combination. Thankfully I am able to open it as easy as my first generation. I guess it's a combination of muscle memory and the damascus adequate grip.

The carbon fiber will hold up well for you! A carbon fiber Inkosi has been my main EDC for 3 years now, and the titanium side shows a lot more wear than the CF. I tried to post a picture but kept getting an error message:mad:

CF ages well, at least in the 15 years I've had experience with it. It does not seem to be affected by extreme temp swings and chemicals. I also own a CF bicycle. It has amazing ride qualities that Aluminum, steel and titanium does not have. But if one the tubes ever cracked, probably the end of the bike.
Fortunately, knife scales aren't tubes and therefore immune to cracking under normal situations. I've never seen a cf knife scale break.

I have one of the numbered CF Large Inkosi’s and I carry it a lot. In the years I have used it the CF shows no wear.
I also have a Large CF 21 Insingo that I carried for a very long time and the CF still looks new.
I rotate between these two knives and a few others, I’m sure that the two CF CRK’s will be here long after I’m gone.
It may not have quite the longevity that Ti does but in that application it really doesn’t need to.

I was not into CRK when the CF Sebenza's were available. I do have both CF and Alutex on many blades from multiple makers and it's really tough stuff that wears well.

I'm hoping against hope that CRK makes more exclusive 21's or 31's with the CF scale. If they do I'm buyin' at lease one of each the Sebenza and Inkosi with CF! :D

does the Alutex color fade in any shape or form?

I'd never heard of Alutex before your post. Looks interesting! Their sizes are limited, and to fabricate a side for a Sebenza one would either have to go up or down in thickness. A large Sebenza scale is .150 thick. Alutex is either .125 or .250.

Juts wanted to give you an update.

I was really impressed with the carbon fiber and damascus I just ordered another one. This time I went with laddered the first was basket. I would have went with raindrop but I already have that in a box elder. Also I am not a fan of the boomerang or the thru-hole nail-nick.

Nice! I was curious since they are recently added if they would be the new style and they hadn’t updated the pictures.

Great point about the generation. I seen a few retailers that offer both. I did verify with them, Devin Thomas.

Ok so this thread is a bit old but just wanted to add to it. Today marks 365 days with a carbon fiber Mnandi just tossed in my pocket sans clip. It’s the only pocket knife I have used in that year and I can tell you it looks and feels better today then it did new. It’s got that fabulous pocket tumble on the carbon and ti. When i got it the edges of the carbon were a bit on the rough side, now as smooth as a babies…
