how durable are the benchmade carbon fiber scales against chipping, fraying, delaminating? this will be a work knife.

My experience is that it is a very durable, high polish material. . My father carries the 940-1 I bought him (I have one too) and they maintain beautifully. He carries his every day - works on his boat, chores around the shop and the only detectable wear is the edge when it needs honing. CF from Benchmade or Spyderco is very durable and I have never seen a failure in person.

You’d have to intentionally try to grind, snap in half or crush it… with tools… to make it fail. That said, any “soft” polished surface is going to get scrapes and snail trails if actually used and carried. It’s not weak, but it’s not adamantium either.
