Carbon Fiber... everything!

Been having loads of fun making things out of this incredibly strong stuff, thought I'd show a quick look at all the gear I've done in it. This is all F40 Unidirectional Carbon Fiber from GhostCF, then hand made by me. Been thinking of doing key danglers next, maybe some sort of bottle opener keychains... any ideas? Thanks for looking :)

Here are a few rings I've done

These are one finger knucks

Here's an overtravel stop I did for my 0562CF

and of course, some knife handles!

It all looks great! My idea: money clip. Not sure how you'd do it (that's your baliwick :)) but it has the potential to be cool.

Love. It. All.

Are you going to make this part of your product line?

I've been looking for non-metallic knuckles for some time (because metallic is illegal in Colorado) but the only carbon fiber ones I've seen are bit out of my budget. What would a traditionally-shaped knucks run me? Assuming you are interested in making them for the public.

I made a CF knife that is currently gorilla taped to my shower wall.

Just a heads up, in case you weren't aware, but it is illegal in the state of California to possess "composite knuckles", as well as manufacturing "composite knuckles" for the purpose of sale.

California penal code 16405 defines what "composite knuckles" are ( and your knucks do qualify). That statute reads in part, and I quote- "composite knuckles" means any device or instrument made wholly or partially of composite materials...that is worn for purposes of offense or defense in or on the hand that either protects the wearer's hand while striking a blow or increases the force of impact from the blow..."

And California penal code 21710 explains the illegality of "composite knuckles", including possession and manufacture for sale.

The problem with knuckles is you need to have them on to use them. This limits the use as a defensive weapon. They are something to use on the offensive.

One of them is still available on Etsy, it's not going to be an ongoing thing but if commissioned i'll make anything :P

It all looks great. Nice work. An all CF boot knife might be fun.

This next idea might be too complicated or just not work but....many knives that use the Reeve Integral Lock have one side with a non-metallic scale and the lock side is usually titanium. Esthetically speaking, this drives my somewhat OCD mind a bit nuts. It's just not symmetrical. It hasn't stopped me from buying said knives, but I much prefer both sides of the knife be of the same material, like solid titanium, with no liners - like many of the Chris Reeve knives.

To get to the point, could an integral lock side be made from carbon fiber? It would most likely need a replaceable metal lock face, like a number of knives have. I would think that the thickness and "thin section" of the arm could be adjusted to achieve the needed strength and flexibility. Then, at long last, we could have a Reeve Integral Lock type of knife with all carbon fiber handle/scales. Think about how light it could be. I haven't seen any knives like this and would think Chris R. himself or a custom maker would have tried it by now. Maybe it's just not the right application? I apologize for the "wall of words". Thanks. Mike

That Wharncliffe knife you posted is very nice, I also like the dusters with the CF nut bead things. But that knife man, me likey.

I've seen people take full CF scales and added a steel lockbar to it. But CF can't really be set like Titanium and is more prone to cracking over time of use like that.

Would be cool though!

Thanks a bunch man :)

I was thinking the "set" could be machined into it (but maybe not - I don't have any experience with CF), the cracking/fatigue could be a deal breaker. I do like the shapes you're creating! Keep it up. Thanks. Mike
