Hallo everybody from Greece :)
I got the "sickness" of knifemaking too, recently, thanks to the Legend called R. W. Loveless who I admire big time. I have made some 20 knives so far from blade blanks (usually fallkniven and others and also one full handmade from a damascus bar) and sold almost all of them. Now I am getting ready for a hunting exhibition here in Greece and I am making some knives. This hobby is REALY NEW in my country and I think I am one of the pioneers. I want to go deeper but not much to read or find (as supplies I mean) so I will be asking many questions. So far I am only learning from this forum and my mistakes. Any way, I have a damascus full tapered tang blank with finger grooves and I want to put carbon fiber and stag for handles. Will carbon fiber break if peened?
Thank you all

Hi Tilemachos! Welcome to the forums.

Re carbon fiber. I haven't peened carbon fiber, but I do peen G-10 (similar). It peens just fine. While I haven't cracked any it does bust up the fibers around the pin sometimes. I suggest you make a slight countersink or taper in the pin hole. As you peen it expands. As soon as the pin appears to fill the hole, stop. Works for me.

Oh yeah make sure the pin is coated with epoxy. Helps seal the hole.

PS you're gonna have to show us pictures of your work!

Thank you for the welcome and the info.
Concerning my work I would love to give you all a chance of critisising my work but I dont know if I am allowed and how to do it. :(

Why do you need to peen carbon fiber, buy some carbon finber pins and glue them up with the carbon fiber and when glued up and worked down you will not be able to see the difference. You could also use black micarta pins they would work also

Thank you, a bright idea but here as I mentioned supplies like that is impossible to find. But may be I will make or find something similar.

Other question for whoever can help. Does anybody know of supply shop in Germany since I will be going there in April (apart from Dhan, Blades & More that I already cooperating with him)

Thanks everybody.

I don't see if you are using pins to hold the carbon fiber on why do you need to peen it,it can be glued in jus like the rest of your pins???

Nathan, I just like peening things.

"If I had a hammer, I'd peen it in the morning; I'd peen it in the evening all over this laaaand....." (Sung to the tune of, "If I had a hammer.")
