Hi, I saw Kershaw made CF scales on their Knockout and they used some kind of threaded inserts for screws. How is this done? Is it glued with epoxy? Or is it melted in?

Do you think these are custom made? They don't seem common. They are 2-56 thread, the scale is 3mm thick. If not fully custom made, they must have at least painted them I guess.

Those inserts probably don't go all the way through the scale, and either way they are probably glued, and they are probably custom but you could check knife making supply websites.

Check the big auction site for “2-56 threaded inserts”. They have brass available.

McMaster probably has other variations too.

One of the mechanical engineers I work with uses inserts called heli coils. They are a bit more expensive and I think they use some special tooling to install. They do work quite well. We have some Delrin parts that get assembled and taken apart a lot. They have the inserts (6-32s) and they have lasted for many years.
