Carbon Fiber Knives?

Hi everybody!

OK I am very new to knives. I have a Kabar Black Tanto 8" that I use for sushi that is as sharp as a spoon right now (I will run a search later I just registered...) other than that and my Leatherpeople, I know nothing about knives except that they're pointy.

Right now I'm looking for a carbon fiber knife (or just a knife with carbon fiber grips?) mainly for aesthetics and to start my deep dark plunge into a bottomless financial hobby toilet...

I know of the Beretta Avenger, Benchmade 690 (all seem to be sold out) and Benchmade 730 as CF knives. The 690 has half carbon fiber and half wood grips, but I'm looking for a full CF grip.

Any help would be tactically appreciated...

I have the T10-CF and couldn't be happier.

Go to http://www.knifecenter.com and run a search on "carbon fiber" and you will find a whole bunch of knives with carbon fiber handles. They have BM690 with all carbon fiber handles. In fact they have a couple with CF. CRKT's M16 comes with CF as well as Boker Klotzli, Gerber and several others.

Thanks everyone!!!!

NOw what's the difference between the 690, 730, and 770? Axis lock, liner lock, etc. I don't know what they are and it means nothing to me. Osborne, Elishewitz, etc. etc. etc.? Who are they and are they tactical? Knifecenter has the 690 and 770 but no 730 but I know the 730 comes in CF, too.

So I assume they come in black and plain (stainless?). The black doesn't seem to be all that black, or is it more greyish? Black is tacticaller, but stainless is prettier, so I may go stainless. And I DON'T want serrations, right? I heard that serrations are a @#$@# to sharpen (for amateurs like me) and I don't really need them for much anyway....

It will be a general purpose pretty knife...not sure if I will even carry it or frame it on the wall with my upcoming carbon fiber knife collection :)

So what I'm asking is can I go wrong with any of these, the 690 or 770, and what's "better"? (Being a gun guy I know NOTHING is better than the next, but what's YOUR opinion?)

Thanks much.

Oooh...pretty...

This one'll take awhile to explain, you're better off running a search on the lock types. They're all just different ways of accomplishing the same thing--keeping the knife open. And you're going to get a lot of different answers as to which is the "best" one.

These guys are all custom knifemakers. Most knife companies do collaborations with knifemakers to make more affordable versions of their custom knives.

Benchmade is one of the top knife manufacturers so quality-wise you can't go wrong with either of them. Between those two knives, there's not all that much difference with functionality. Similar blade styles, but different handle ergonomics. The 770 is an axis lock and I find axis locks to be a bit smoother opening than a liner lock.

I am a big fan of CF Bolsters. Here is a Gregg Lightfoot that uses CF Bolsters to highlight hi slight Green "Camo G-10" and it is an amazing match.

A very light knife, well balanced with sandvik steel. One of the nicest production pieces I have seen:

Among the Ruko Eikhorn Solingen knives buddy and I saw today was one with CF scales. Looks a bit like the WH that MikeMargolis posted....

Got a Microtech LCC and one of Mike Snody's Ronin fixed blade neck knives. Both are carbon fibred and are gorgeous.

I'd post pictures, but I've got no where to store them for posting.

As far as I know, the 770 and 690 (with rosewood and CF grips) are both full production and NOT limited knives, right? I think I rather go with a production knife for now...

A damascus blade on the 770 would be cool though

How do the finishes on the stainless vs the black blades hold up?

I have a Benchmade 350BT with the Black BT coating and if it tells you anything...

I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER BLACK BLADE. At least not with any idea of actually USING it.

One moderate use of my knife made it look like a refugee.

Granted, other brands may do better coatings. But no more BT for me.

Anyone know a place (online) where you can actually buy a William Henry CF (or BT) model? No one seems to have any in stock... makes me wonder if you can even by them direct from WH at the moment.

The Buck Odyssey 182, with CF scales and ats34. Not to be confused with the Odyssey 181 or 186, both with plastic scales. The 182 was discontinued a while ago but you might be able to find them around still. A really nice knife in every way, and it was very well priced for an ats34/CF knife.
