Hi BF,

I am looking at buying the Benchmade Osborne 940-1 or the 940-2 when it comes out... But, I have zero experience with carbon fiber on knives. People who have Benchmade Osborne 940-1, how tough is the carbon fiber handles? Do they have grip? I want a knife I can use a lot, and need to make sure carbon fiber handles can take it.

Carbon fiber is very tough. I haven't had any issues with any of my knives, including the ZT0777. They use it for car parts, so I wouldn't worry about it's durability.

Unfortunately, the grip is not as grippy as something like G10, unless there is texture machined. I actually traded the carbon fiber of my ZT0620 for a G10 scale since it was too difficult for me to take it out of my pocket. I didn't have any issues when it was in hand.

I wouldn't worry too much.

This is over 3600lbs of force.....tensile test.

The variable will be the type of CF and lamination/weave. I would say that this is the closest I have found to what a knife handle would be.

No worry on the toughness of CF. It wears very well. Is it the most grippy material out there, no but I don't feel that it is slippery. I do prefer G10 for a knife that will be used hard. For me, a properly designed handle and safe handling is more important than scale material.

Some of the low quality knives CF is only on the top layer with a lesser material below it !

Some high quality knives are like that too
