Carbon Fiber Pommel?

What are your views on having carbon fiber as a pommel for a personal design knife in terms of durability compared to a protruding stainless steel pommel?

I wouldn't use this in your close combat setup as carbon fiber is known to fracture spectacularly.

Yup. CF is considered "tough" when weight is a factor.

When it comes to CF versus steel, there is no contest in my humble opinion.

"Carbon Fiber" would be epoxy laminate with carbon fiber reinforcement, just as "G10" is epoxy lamate with glass fiber reinforcement.
Epoxy laminates are strong but not tough. I would use metal for the pommel of any knife which is going to see field use.
