anyone know if and where you can get carbon fiber scales in any other color but black ? I'm actually looking for green if that helps.Thanks.

carbon is black...you could probably find green concealex with a weave pattern on it, if youre using it for the handle i just dont know...

edit

sorry just reread your post, I've never heard of green carbon fiber, and also, you probably know this but, carbon fiber is really bad to work with, worse than fiberglass, and make SURE youre wearing a face mask when you grind it

I have worked with it and I used a fine spray bottle of water to keep it damp. That keeps the particulates down and and the endmill cool. The cuttings are very small and very sharp and when they get into your skin it is not fun.

But the upside is it's very durable and does move around when the temp or humidity changes.

Good luck!

search my posts in this forum. in the thread my first knife or somethin like that, from a guy from finland. he used silver cf, there is a link to a manufacturer in that thread that has many colors of cf, silver included. it was probably within a week or 2 (definitely within 2). good luck man.

Check out www.uscomposites.com. They have raw carbon fiber and resin to make your own sheets. Any color pretty much you want plus you can dye your resin to get alternative colors.

(edit) I just checked their site and apparently there is a carbon fiber shortage. Did not know this. Still something to search around for.

yeah thats the one. hmm i remembered they had more colors tho, i guess not. but still, they got more than just plain cf.

there are a few different colors of weaves that look like carbon fiber. its just not actually called "carbon" fiber.

i think its called Texalium if im not mistaken. or Hexcel Texailum.
it comes in blue and red and yellow most commonly. but i think ive seen green before.

there is also stuff refered to as 'silver twill G10' pretty much looks like silver carbon fiber. but im kinda confused as to whether it actually is G10 or something more like that texalium stuff.

as for this silver stuff, you can get this stuff from texas knifemaking supply. i think they may also sell some blue twill too.
from my experience this twill G10 is a tad bit softer than CF. not noticeably though, i only noticed because the knife i was making also had CF on it.

Anything other than black is not carbon fiber.
You can tint the resin to get some different effects when laying up cloths, but the base color is still black.
There are red, blue, green, and yellow kevlar/carbonfiber hybrids. They do not sand well, as the kevlar fuzzes, but can be done well if sealed and sanded, and sealed again...
The silver and blue G10 I've seen is made with Texalium.
Texalium is aluminized fiberglass made in France by Hexcel and comes in silver, gold, red, blue, orange, and green. Good luck finding panels of it in any colors other than silver. Blue was available not long ago, but seems to have disappeared.
I have found panels with the top layer in color on a thicker base of plain carbonfiber.

I use to have a site that had all kinds of carbon fiber and kevlar cloth. I'll see if I can find it sometime today and get it posted. Don't recall how they got the colored carbon fiber cloth or if it was a mix but they had alot of different colors.
