A question about the texture of my Terzuola slipit, and Native IV. The Terz has more "catch" to the scales, the Native IV is much smoother. I don't have a complaint with either, but I am just curious as to the difference in texture. I know that one is made in Taiwan and the other is made in Japan. Also, the many differences in finish of G10, some for micarta etc. Why the difference in CF texture from the Terzuola to the Native IV?

Possibly due to all the favorable comments the textured CF received from those who purchased the CF Sage. I know I think it's the best CF Spyderco has ever used, an excellent compromise between grip and beauty. The flat matte style, as on the Native and Caly 3 is the opposite extreme, it offers no more grip that polished CF, and is, if anything, even less attractive than peel-ply CF. Or perhaps, like foliage green G-10, Spyderco simply got a good deal on an carload lot. ;)

Hi Hunter,

Different makers have different skills and processes. We have one maker that has a way to process the surface of the carbon fiber to also create traction while retaining an eye appealing look.

The purpose of using carbon fiber is extreme strength. It's a benefit that it is also eye appealing.

What is the texture on the Gayle Bradley like?
Don't have a Bradley, but this is what the Sage CF looks like...

...each of those liittle squares is a "bump".

You might want to look at this thread over on the Spyderco factory forum. It has some excellent macro shots of the Bradley in it.

Couple more shots. A macro that shows the bumps even better...

...and a shot that shows the CF color shifts better...
