Hey,

Haven't posted here much but I was changing my XM 3" scale and noticed that with my Blue/Black G10 scale there is more area in the pivot that is cut out so the pivot rides lower into the scale compared to my Smooth CF scale.

Here are a couple pictures to show what I mean. The first is the Blue/Black G10 scale which came with the knife. Second shows the CF scale which I bought later. As you see the pivot seats lower in the G10 scale. My question is why is there a difference? A little new to Hinderer so not sure why this is. Tried googling but came dry.

Thanks.

Where are you guys getting the 3" smooth carbon from?

After 6 months of hunting I've scored nothing.

Tell you what Jay, if I see a smooth 3" CF scale for sale I'll just buy it knowing that you're good for it...

I just scored one on a user 3" spanto. I wanted the knife anyway, but the CF scale just insured that I'd leap. Now to see if I like it better than the 3.5" I had...

What's the verdict LW, do you prefer the 3 or 3.5? To be honest, when I first got my 3.5, it looked huge compared to the 3". But after I started carrying and playing with the 3.5 and NOT comparing it to my smaller knives, it is really growing on me. And the spanto blade is definitely my favorite - Rick should be put in the Knives Hall of Fame for that design alone.

I go back and forth brtween the 2. In 3" I've only carried slicer, and really like it. I have a NIB spanto, and another inbound, so I might carry a 3" spanto to see how I like it.

Where does one find a 3" spanto?

Keep an eye open on the BF Exchange, Hinderer Dealer Links, Put a WTB tag line in your signature, Knife show lotteries, Lotteries here on BF RHK.

A custom 3" spanto is pretty rare but might be found as Rubi stated. I think it is safe to narrow that down some for a 3" production spanto where the only likely place is second hand, it isn't likey that Hinderer Knives or any dealers will have one from the production run a few years ago nor would I expect to see one in a lottery.

Good luck, the 3" XMs are great knives, in slicer or spanto. I have been holding my breath for a 3" wharnie....I believe I'll be holding for a while.
