Carbon Fiber Small 21 Question

So I've been back and forth on whether or not to pull the trigger on a small CF 21 and I saw that Knife Art has some exclusives in CF, but they're textured scales. Now I thought that the majority of CF Sebenzas I've seen are smooth-finished Carbon Fiber, but I'm questioning this now.

Are these new textured CF versions different from the norm? Anyone have one that cares to comment (or a smooth CF if such a thing exists)?

I've owned a small 21 and actually regretted selling it, but I always caught myself eyeballing the CF version and folks had typically good things to say about it.

I've also seen a drop in the number of available CF versions out there - was this a limited-run thing or was this intended to be a part of Chris Reeve's normal production line-up?

Are you sure they are textured? It looks like that may be on the site, but I was under the impression that they were all polished.

They are not textured. They have a smooth, matte finish on the scale. Great little knife and I highly recommend them.

if you take a real good look you'll see the slight horizontal cuts going across the CF scale. The CF's I have, if you look at them on an angle it will look like glass. It is textured but ever so slightly.

Just to clarify, Knife Art lists them as "Textured Carbon Fiber" (and they appear to have cutouts in them for texturing).

I'm guessing that answers my question as to whether or not these are the norm. That's cool, I would prefer non-textured versions but I'm not seeing any available anywhere.

Were the Carbon-Fiber versions a limited run type of thing (not a lot of info about them on CRK's website)?

I edc the cf sebenza. The first run of cf sebenzas were polished and numbered, but none after that. The rest are just normal cf. They are grippy and have the texture of carbon fiber, but not "textured". It is a fantasic knife an worth ever penny. i recommend it.

Interesting... I thought they were all polished. I may be reconsidering a cf sebenza.

These are exclusive to Knifeart.com. I had the large version and even though the scales are smooth, they do provide plenty of grip. I just purchased a CF scale that has been carved by the maker. This is an aftermarket scale built to perfection. I love it on my small tanto 21! These can be had by a few custom knife makers.

Very Nice blackend, I'm not a big fan of tanto's but I like that one:thumbup:

That is not correct as I have a non numbered fully polished CF large.

It does say textured in the ad and does appear to be something different than the polished finish they were. Best bet would be to call them up and ask if there's been a change to the CF.

When did you buy it? As far as I know only the first run of cf sebenzas was polished.

I purchased when they were first available but did not want a numbered version.

So - what's the difference between "polished" carbon fiber and "normal" carbon fiber (please excuse my ignorance on the subject)?

Hmmm. That's interesting. EZ Bake, the polished is glossy looking and I assume very smooth. The non-polished is grippy but not overly aggressive. To me it feels to have the same "grippiness" as a plain jane sebenza. You can feel the pattern of the carbon fiber as well. I hope that makes sense.

I've got a non numbered version in my hands now and it feels smooth.
I can see the pattern, but it feel's flatt - like a blasted finish.
Mine is definitely not polished an looks all business.

The light weight is cool too.
The difference between the Ti-scale and the CF-scale is allmost that of an AA-battery!

Hope this helps.

I have the CF, it is not textured but smooth. Small striation lines from the cut, nothing you can feel but you can see them. But not highly polished. Like the CF on the caly 3 from spyderco.

I bought a CF small lefty last year and the cf was not polished up like the numbered cf versions.

Well after reading this I just pulled the trigger on the small carbon fiber from knife art. I will let you know how it compares to others as I had a large carbon fiber sebenza from the first run when I get it.

You will find there's a noticeable difference between the two and even though I own both, I still prefer the small. Yes please lets us know what you think, especially the minute you first hold the small in your hand.
