I've done some searching and all I can find with carbon fiber scale and titanium framelock is a limited Buck Mayo (tip down carry, I prefer tip up) and an XM-18 (far outside my price range). Are there any knives that I am missing? As long as I'm asking about carbon fiber, what are your favorite knives with carbon fiber handles of any kind? I just got a Native 4 and it is amazing. Thanks in advance for any info!

paramilitary 2 in carbon fiber. It's fantastic. And i have the XM-18 with a smooth carbon fiber scale and trust me my friend, save for it! It's outstanding.

I'm very disappointed that you didn't find the coming Kershaw Tilt.

I mean, it's only the biggest thing since sliced bread:rolleyes:.

I'd say if you really like a framelock that doesn't have carbon fiber, you can always ask one of the members who works with it to make you a scale for it. Or look up cuscadi on google.

I got the new Shabaria with the Carbon fiber handle slabs where the original had Micarta, which was pretty nice itself. But this new model is much heavier, with thicker blade and steel liners.

I hope I don't hurt any feelings, but that tilt is about the ugliest thing I've ever seen. The GB would be on my list but I've heard M4 isn't very rust resistant and I can rust anything. The Para2 might have been outside my price range too, but for sure I can't see spending $600-700 on the XM-18, not for the cutting I do, it does look awesome though. Thanks to all for your info and suggestions!

i do second the idea on finding a titanium frame lock you like and finding someone to do an aftermarket scale. i know a few members on here will do a great job.

Well, wharncliffe style blades aren't for everyone. Still, I believe that was the American knife of the year for 2010. Certainly worth chewing on:thumbup:.

there's always the tyrade

Do you want the scale to be made completely of Carbon Fiber? Is it to make the knife lighter or for looks? I sent a Kershaw Ti/SG2 JYDII to Brad Southard and he added IKBS, made a CF overlay scale, and a CF backspacer for it.

Gayle Bradley. No, it's not a frame lock, but the liner is as thick as many frames out there. I wouldn't worry about it's strength one bit, especially since there is no finger groove. Get it, and don't look back :)

Added IKBS???? Can this be done to any knife? What did that cost?

I like a lot of the Spyderco carbon fiber models like Militaries, Paras, Zdp Caly 3, etc. But I don't care all that much about it since finding out that utility wise, G-10 is much tougher stuff. CF has the benefit of being lighter, but it's not that much lighter. My guess is that if G-10 cost more, people would rationalize G-10 as being the more desirable material because of its tougher qualities.

I'm having a sword built by John Gage and he normally uses G10 for his handles. He happened to get some carbon fiber in and offered me the free upgrade.

I asked him what was tougher/more durable?

He said it's like comparing tanks, but I'd he hits G10 with a hammer it will dent. He said CF laughs at being hit with a hammer.

He also said when grinding/sanding down G10, it shaves off nice and smooth like plastic normally does.

Carbon fiber sends sparks flying when he's grinding & sanding lol

Needless to say I went with the carbon fiber ;)

Anyone have an idea how much it would cost me to have a CF scale made for my HEST/F? (material & labor)
