Carbon Fiber vs. Canvas Micarta?

Can anyone compare and contrast CF & CM in regard to gripability, durability and any other relevant characteristics?

I am looking at the Microtech CMTX-5, which is available in both.

Thanks,
Nick

I've owned (and own) a few canvas micarta handled knives and only handled some carbon fibre handled knives.

I'm thinking the gripability aspects of these materials is dependent upon how they are finished.

Media blasted or rough sanding seems to yield good results.

Unfortunately, most carbon fibre seems to be finished with some kind of clear coat (usually thick) that results in a slick surface IMO. Spyderco's recent Military had highly gripable carbon fibre, though.

Perhaps one of the makers will answer in with more difinitive answers.

Micarta will be grippier, but IMO the green canvas micarta CMTX-5 looks like a turd with a blade in it. The carbon fiber version looks much nicer. I've got a couple LCCs with CF scales, and I've never really noticed any grip problems related to the CF.

Planterz... "turd with a blade in it"... LMAO!!! Know what? You're right! I going for the CF. Thanks for waking me up.

Polished canvas micarta with a design laser engraved on it for gripability(is that a word?) would look nice, maybe something Celtic.
