I have been makeing a few folders with carbon fiber scales in my spare time. I do the work in my unfinished basement. I always were a respirator but would like to know how bad Carbon Fiber really is. I know they talk about how bad G-10 is, but is carbon fiber really dangerous or not. Should I clean up right away after each time of cutting and sanding or is it not that bad. Thanks in advance!

Greetings CJ. Yes, G10 is really bad! Since you' ve mentioned carbon fiber and G10, do you plan to do a textured finsh on the knives you will or are working on? I posted an earlier thread inquiring the possibilites of checkered G10. If you do some experimenting, please let me know if either material stands up well. Thanks.

Yes, carbon fiber is dangerous. Once the material is ground into dust, the carbon is in the form of needle-like particles that bury themselves right into your lung tissue. G10 is similar, but the needles are fiberglass.

It's the airborn particles that are really dangerous. Vacuum everything up once it has settled, and hook up some kind of vacuum sustem that runs while you work or you'll be sorry in future years.
