carbon fiber

would it be efficient to add carbon fibers in the middle section of the blade?

For what purpose? For asthetics you could but in terms of weight saving you might as well leave the channel you would insert the inlay to empty as a fuller.
 
if you prowl around in the old threads someone has done this, I think with a parang like blade
 
For looks maybe, all it would be is an inlay then. For use, no it would basically have to be over engineered just to function like a full steel sword.
